Elon Musk’s War With Twitter Is Going Nuclear

In light of Elon Musk’s move to pull out of his $44 billion purchase of Twitter, both sides are girding for what will likely be a contentious and lengthy legal battle. Musk announced the reversal in a filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday. In a letter sent to Twitter, the Tesla CEO’s lawyer justified the move by accusing Twitter of failing to disclose sufficient data on the prevalence of fake and spam accounts on the platform. In response, Twitter has retained Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, a prominent New York law firm, to hold him to the agreement, per Bloomberg.

In his first tweets on the impending court battle, Musk laughed off Twitter’s threats and assured his tens of millions of followers that the social media company’s executives have fallen into his latest ingenious trap. “They said I couldn’t buy Twitter, then they wouldn’t disclose bot info,” reads a meme Musk shared early Monday that depicts himself reacting with more and more laughter. “Now they want to force me to buy Twitter in court, now they have to disclose bot info in court.”

Musk also tweeted the caption “Chuckmate” as well as a meme that depicts a leering Chuck Norris playing a chess match with only one pawn at his disposal, even as his opponent is playing at full strength. While the meaning of the post is unclear, Musk shared it minutes after the “bot info” meme. (Additionally, fans of Musk have often used the term “4D chess” to explain away the billionaire’s more unorthodox, impetuous, or seemingly unwise business decisions—like in 2018, when Musk tweeted his intent to take Tesla private at a per-share price of $420, an apparent weed joke rather than a serious funding number. A federal judge called the 2018 tweet “false and misleading” in an April ruling.)

In what will be the next turn in the monthslong sale drama, Twitter reportedly plans to file suit against Musk in Delaware court this week, according to Fortune. “The Twitter Board is committed to closing the transaction on the price and terms agreed upon with Mr. Musk and plans to pursue legal action to enforce the merger agreement,” tweeted Bret Taylor, the chairman of Twitter’s board on Friday. “We are confident we will prevail in the Delaware Court of Chancery.”

In a tweet on April 21, four days before Twitter’s board agreed to sell the company to Musk for $54.20 a share, Musk noted his top priority if he succeeds in buying Twitter: “We will defeat the spam bots or die trying!” But weeks after Twitter’s board agreed to sell the company to Musk, the once eager buyer said the deal was “temporarily on hold” while his team assessed the “spam bot” situation. He also insisted that Twitter failed to provide adequate details of the number of automated or phony accounts on the site—an explanation he conveniently unfurled shortly after Tesla’s share price began cratering amid a larger market downturn in tech stocks. Twitter maintains that it has held up its end of the bargain, including by offering to provide Musk with a “firehose” of internal data that his team can comb through. “He said he wanted to buy Twitter to get rid of the spam bots, and now he’s saying he doesn’t want to buy Twitter because it has spam bots. Only one of those things can be true,” explained Casey Newton, who writes the tech newsletter “Platformer,” in a May interview with Vanity Fair.

In the letter on Friday, Musk’s attorney argued that Twitter is “in material breach of multiple provisions” of the merger agreement—namely, the company supposedly concealing the true size of its user base and the number of bots that are active on the platform. “This information is fundamental to Twitter’s business and financial performance and is necessary to consummate the transactions contemplated by the Merger Agreement because it is needed to ensure Twitter’s satisfaction of the conditions to closing, to facilitate Mr. Musk’s financing and financial planning for the transaction, and to engage in transition planning for the business,” the letter continued.

Among those most disappointed in the collapse of Musk’s Twitter deal are the right-wing media figures who apparently viewed the billionaire as a social media savior capable of reigning in the executives who opted to ban Donald Trump following the Capitol riot. The former president vented his frustration toward Musk while speaking to supporters at a weekend rally in Alaska. “Elon is not going to buy Twitter. Where did you hear that before? From me,” Trump said. “He’s another bullshit artist.” One wonders if Trump’s anger at Musk stems from his refusing to buy Twitter or something else.

Tina Turner reportedly died without ever having met ‘most’ of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The ‘Queen of Rock n Roll’ is survived by two of her four sons, as well as two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Turner died in her Switzerland home on May 24 at the age of 83 from an undisclosed illness.

Now, Page Six claims the mother of four did not let on to her wider family that she was ”seriously ill” in the lead up to her death.

The music icon’s close friend, Cher, confirmed on social media Turner “was really sick and not wanting people to know about it”, after suffering with illness “for a long time”.

According to Page Six, the River Deep, Mountain High singer never met her grandchildren and great-grandchildren from her biological son Ronald ‘Ronnie’ Turner and her adoptive son Michael Turner.

Ronald, the biological son of Tina and Ike Turner, who had an infamously tumultuous marriage shared three children from his marriage to wife Afida Turner.

He died in December 2022 at the age of 62, his wife revealing he had suffered a medical emergency after falling ill in the weeks prior to his death.

In a touching tribute, Turner shared her heartbreak to the world on Instagram.

“Ronnie, you left the world far too early. In sorrow i close my eyes and think of you, my beloved son,” she wrote.

The singer reportedly didn’t get the chance to meet Ronnie’s two children, Raquel and Randy, nor her granddaughter Raquel’s two sons, Tyson and Tyrese.

The Proud Mary singer was also the grandmother of Tiffany Turner-Dukes, 40, the daughter of Michael Turner – who Turner adopted, alongside Ike Jr., from her marriage to their father Ike Turner in 1962.

Tiffany is the founder of an anti-bullying non-profit and apparently takes after her grandmother as she is also credited as a musician.

Tiffany, nor her three children Marli, Amari and Gianni, ever met their famous relative in person. However, Tiffany posted a sweet tribute to her late grandmother, writing, “Rest in freedom…Uncle Craig and Ronnie are waiting for you.”

The post references Turner’s loss of both her biological sons Ronnie and Craig, who died before their mother.

Turner shared Craig with saxophonist Raymond Hill, who was in Ike’s band Kings of Rhythm. She had Craig when she was 18 and still in high school.

Craig died by suicide in 2018 at the age of 59.

Turner shared on Twitter that losing her firstborn was her “saddest moment as a mother”.

During a talk with close friend Oprah Winfrey, the singer shared her disbelief and grief over his death.

“During our last talk, he said, ‘I just want to hear your voice and that laugh.’ He had never said something like that. I think that was his goodbye to me, but I didn’t realise it at the time,” Turner recalled.

Neither Craig nor Ike Jr. had any children.

A royal wedding! Prince William and Princess Kate were among many high-profile guests at Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan and Rajwa Al Saif‘s nuptials.

The Prince and Princess of Wales, 40 and 41, respectively, looked chic upon their arrival at the Thursday, June 1, ceremony at Zahran Palace. While William sported a suit, white shirt and blue tie, Kate donned a detailed, blush pink dress with long sleeves and a high neckline by designer Elie Saab. She completed the look with large, bejeweled earrings and a gold clutch.

The couple weren’t the only British royals in attendance. William’s cousin Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, were also seen arriving at the wedding. Edoardo, 39, twinned with William in a similar suit ensemble, while Beatrice, 34, matched her husband’s blue tie with an embroidered, pale blue gown featuring a black belt.

William and Kate previously took a trip to Jordan with their children — Prince George, 9, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5 — in 2021. They featured a photo from the trip on the family’s Christmas card that year.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have many other ties to Jordan. Crown Prince Hussein’s mother, Queen Rania Al Abdullah, serves on the council of William’s Earthshot Prize, which awards environmentalists around the world for helping to make the world a better place. Kate, meanwhile, lived in the country from 1984 to 1986 while her father, Michael Middleton, worked for British Airways.

The couple’s royal wedding attendance comes nearly two months after the pair celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary. “12 years ❤️,” the two captioned a new photo via their joint Instagram account on April 29, featuring them posing for a pic during a bike ride.

William and Kate’s outfits matched the ones they wore in their family’s 2022 Christmas card. Keeping things casual in jeans, William sported a navy blue button-down shirt while Kate wore a lacy white top.

The duo tied the knot at Westminster Abbey in a red military uniform and white, long-sleeved dress in April 2011. The wedding came 10 years after they first met as students at the University of St Andrews. Two years later, they became parents with the birth of George, followed by Charlotte and Louis in 2015 and 2018, respectively.

Three kids seems to be the perfect number for William. “Don’t give my wife any more ideas!” he joked while Kate was holding a baby during a hospital visit in January 2022.

Last month, the family of five stepped out at King Charles III’s coronation on May 6. While George served as one of his grandfather’s Pages of Honor, the parents matched their looks with their younger two children. Louis’ navy outfit complimented William’s blue royal robes, while Kate and Charlotte twinned in white Alexander McQueen dresses and floral headpieces by Jess Collett x Alexander McQueen.
