Google’s just-released Pixel 6A is $50 off at Amazon

#Googles #justreleased #Pixel #Amazon

The Pixel 6A from Google is just a week old, but there’ve been notable promotions running on it since before it came out. Now, you can get the Pixel 6A for an outright discount of $50 off at Amazon, knocking the price of the sage and charcoal colors down to $399 — no included gift card or earbud stipulations to worry about. This is a moderately priced phone, now priced even better for a limited time. Be sure to click the on-page coupon to get the full discount at Amazon, so each color becomes $399 at checkout, and don’t be fooled by any third-party sellers that may appear with a similar deal that lacks the coupon.

While the Pixel 6A is a bit of a departure from previous A-series phones from Google, it’s an exceptional midrange option that puts speed and performance at the forefront. It uses the same Google Tensor CPU as the pricier Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro flagships, with a claim of five years of security updates. Where Google pared things back was with premium features like wireless charging, water resistance, and the megapixel count of its main camera — though its smaller 6.1-inch OLED may be a blessing to anyone wanting a (somewhat) single-hand-friendly phone. Read our review.

Google Pixel 6A

Google’s Pixel 6A comes with a relatively small 6.1-inch OLED screen but is an excellent performer with a good camera and battery life.

As data breach after data breach continuously reminds us, we need to keep our digital lives under a safe lock and key. One of the easiest ways to do that is by using a proper password manager like 1Password, which automatically generates difficult passwords and encrypts them so you never have to worry about remembering or typing them in yourself. Thankfully, 1Password is offering an exclusive discount for Verge readers throughout the month of August. If you’re a new 1Password subscriber, you can get a one-year individual plan or family plan for 50 percent off.

An individual plan covers you across your devices, normally for $2.99 a month. This deal drops the subscription to just $17.94 for the year instead of $35.88. As for the family plan, it offers you up to five separate accounts for $60 a year ($5 a month), but the current discount makes it just $30 for the first year. You don’t have to worry about any promo codes or special coupons on this one, either. Just use the links here, and the deal will automatically apply.

1Password subscription (family plan, annual cost)

1Password’s family subscription grants up to five people individual access to 1Password’s services. Typically $5 a month, this limited-time deal brings the price down to $2 a month for up to a year.

If you want to upgrade your streaming device and you’re already living in Apple’s walled garden, you may want to consider the latest Apple TV 4K, which is currently on sale with 32GB of storage for $119.99 (about $59 off) at Amazon and Best Buy. Today’s deal is just $10 more than the all-time low we saw during Prime Day — and is one we don’t see very often.

The Apple TV 4K supports (as you might expect) 4K resolution as well as HDR. In addition to a fast processor that should keep it running for years to come, it can be used as a mini game console with an Apple Arcade subscription. It may be pricier than the typical streaming dongles from the likes of Roku and Amazon, but it’s also much more futureproof, with support for HDMI 2.1, Wi-Fi 6, and even the Thread standard.

Oh, and did we mention that the remote is finally a conventional remote and no longer a touchpad-reliant mess? Because it is. Read our review.

Apple TV 4K (2021, 32GB)

The latest Apple TV 4K houses the A12 Bionic processor and features faster performance with HDMI 2.1, Wi-Fi 6, and Thread support.

Amazon’s latest Echo Show 10 is on sale from Woot for $179.99, which is its best price to date. The 10.1-inch smart display usually sells for $249.99, so this is a sizable $70 off on the third-gen model. While lots of Echo devices are very similar, with Amazon’s Alexa smart assistant fetching requests for things like recipes and tackling all kinds of smart home controls, the Echo Show 10 is very unique thanks to its motorized base. It physically turns the screen toward you so you can always see it. That may sound a little creepy at first, but the camera has a privacy shutter for when you don’t need it. Also, if you’ve ever tried having a video call with someone while trying to multitask, you may appreciate how excellent the Show 10 is for video calls. It’s also a good way to make sure other family members stay nicely in frame on calls with you, if you feel inclined to gift it to anyone with a tendency to point their phone up their nose during a call. Read our review.

Amazon Echo Show 10 (third gen)

Amazon’s rotating Echo Show 10 has a motor within its cylindrical base that lets its 10.1-inch display spin around to find you, so you’ll always have the screen within view. It’s the best smart display for making video calls.

Since the HomePod Mini is the only smart speaker still in Apple’s stable, it doesn’t see discounts very often. And if you want to use Siri on a speaker or add some wireless sound to your Apple TV, the Mini is your only choice. Perhaps that’s why we’ve usually only seen it drop as low as $80 during the holidays and why the colorful models rarely go on sale.

Now, however, we’re seeing some refreshing discounts on at least some of the fun colors. B&H Photo is selling the colorful smart speaker in both blue and yellow for $89.95 and $89.99, respectively. I know that $10 off doesn’t sound like much, but it’s the kind of price you normally have to be a Costco member to get — though, if you are a Costco member, it’s currently $79.99 plus $2.99 shipping there. If you’re stocking up on a few of these for different rooms in your house so you check the weather or news regardless of where you are, that modest $10 discount starts going much further. Read our review.

HomePod Mini

Apple’s smallest smart speaker, the HomePod Mini, comes with Siri, Apple’s voice assistant, built-in and can play music, set timers, and control your smart home as well as send messages and make calls using your iPhone. It comes in white, dark gray, blue, yellow, or orange.

And now for some shameless self-promotion: everything in The Verge merch store is 20 percent off. This includes this cute mechanical keyboard shirt and the legendary EMAILS tee, which are now just $23.20 (about $6 off). There’s also some more shirt designs, stickers, notebooks, and posters — all 20 percent off. Go ahead and fly your Verge fan flag, because you’re awesome and we want you to show it.

Thursday? More like ThursDEALS, am I right?

#phones #OnePlus #11R #Samsung #Galaxy #S21 #iQOO

There were quite a few handsets vying for a slot on our sub-40K list of phones this month. After much deliberation, we have shortlisted five. This budget gives you access to some premium features like flagship-grade processors, high quality cameras with OIS, excellent high refresh rate displays and more. You get phones suitable for gamers as well as photography enthusiasts in this budget. So let’s take a look at the best options you can get your hands on under Rs 40,000 this May.

Best phones to buy under Rs 40,000 in India

OnePlus 11R 5G
OnePlus had a strong start to the year courtesy of the launch of the OnePlus 11 series. While the flagship OnePlus 11 5G is loaded with more bells and whistles, the more affordable 11R 5G is no pushover either, and borrows a lot of goodness from its more premium sibling including the design. This stylish phone looks just like the 11 5G from the front and back, barring the placement of the front camera and a missing Hasselblad logo at the back.

The OnePlus 11R has a curved display too, measuring 6.74-inch with an unusual (higher than Full HD) resolution of 2772 x 1240 pixels. You get a standard Fluid AMOLED display here instead of the more premium LTPO3 variant on the 11. This HDR10+ compliant screen supports 10-bit colour, 120 Hz refresh rate and can get up to 1450 nits bright. This phone is powered by Qualcomm’s previous generation flagship Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, and you get its 8 GB RAM and 128 GB UFS 3.1 storage variant in this budget.

The 50MP primary camera with OIS but without Hasselblad’s colour tuning is quite impressive and does most of the heavy lifting. The support cast is modest with an 8MP ultrawide camera and a 2MP macro camera. There’s a 16MP selfie camera too. Its 5000 mAh battery can last for a day and a half of moderate use, and the bundled 100W charger promises to juice it up in just 25 minutes. The phone runs OxygenOS 13 based on Android 13 and one can expect several OS and security updates going forward.

Motorola Edge 30 Pro 5G
The Motorola Edge 30 Pro 5G seems to have received further price cuts and you can now get it under 35K. This phone is powered by Qualcomm’s previous flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, which is still extremely powerful, and comes with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage. Its 6.7-inch Full HD+ OLED screen flaunts a 144 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ compliance and can display over a billion colours. You get Corning Gorilla Glass protection against scratches at the front and back.

Motorola Edge 30 Pro 5G

The photography department on the Motorola Edge 30 Pro is impressive too, starting with a 50MP primary camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS) and another 50MP camera for ultra-wide photography; there’s a 2MP depth sensor too. The 60MP front camera is bound to impress the selfie crowds. This phone has a 4800 mAh battery that comfortably lasts close to a day and a half of moderate use and supports 68W fast charging as well as 15W fast wireless charging. This phone launched with Android 12, and an Android 13 update has started rolling out. Like most Motorola phones, you get a clean and near-stock user interface.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G
The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G is another great option in this budget. This phone has a sleek design and also flaunts an IP68 rating for dust and fluid resistance. It has a 6.4-inch Full HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with HDR10+ compliance, 120 Hz refresh rate and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. It is powered by Samsung’s Exynos 2100 chip which can be found in several premium phones from the company. You can get its 8 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage variant in this budget. The phone launched with Android 12, and is upgradeable to Android 13 with Samsung’s One UI 5.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G

Photography department on the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G consists of three cameras at the back starting with a 12MP primary camera with OIS, a 12MP ultra-wide camera with 123 degrees FOV and an 8MP telephoto camera with OIS that provides 3X optical zoom. The camera performance is impressive with excellent detail and wide dynamic range, and with a strong low light performance too. A 4500 mAh battery keeps the phone running for close to a day and a half of moderate use and supports wireless charging as well.

The iQOO 9 5G is for those looking for a solid camera phone with ample storage under 40K. It is powered by Qualcomm’s earlier flagship Snapdragon 888+ chip, and you get its 12 GB RAM and 256 GB internal storage variant in this budget. Its 6.56-inch HDR10+ compliant Full HD+ AMOLED display has 120Hz refresh rate and can display a billion colour shades. The phone launched with Android 12 with FunTouch OS 12, and the company released an Android 13 update for the phone a few months ago. One can expect more software updates for this device in the future.

The rear camera department here is quite versatile too. You get a 48MP primary camera with Gimbal stabilisation, accompanied by a 13MP ultra-wide camera and a 13MP 50 mm professional portrait camera for great portrait shots. The 16MP front camera is more than handy for selfies and video calls. Asus ROG Phone 5s
Here is a surprise entrant in this list. A relatively old phone but still highly relevant for mobile gamers, and certainly a very interesting option at this price point. We are talking about the Asus ROG Phone 5s. Other than powerful processing hardware, the phone has several optimisations and enhancements to give gamers an immersive gaming experience. The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ SoC which is still fairly powerful for gaming, and you get 8 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage to go with it.

Blade Runner Show Possibly Delayed a Full Year as Companies Refuse to Pay Writers

You can now add the upcoming Blade Runner 2099 TV show to the list of shows impacted by the Writers Strike.

According to the BBC, the Prime Video series was set to start shooting at Belfast Harbour Studios in Northern Ireland. The ongoing strike by the Writers Guild of America also affects writers whose shows or films are filming outside of the US, such as 2099. And even though it hasn’t even been a full month since the strike started, the sci-fi series may not end up starting up production again until spring 2024.

Speaking to the outlet, Northern Ireland Screen (the country’s national screen agency) said it was “extremely disappointed” by production being halted. Its CEO Richard Williams added that the company “hope a fair deal is reached soon so crew can get back to work.” In the meantime, NI Screen plans to find something else to take up 2099’s production schedule, while being mindful that “many freelance crew and supply chain companies were relying on this project for work in the months ahead.”

Blade Runner 2099 was officially picked up by Prime Video last September as a limited series with original Blade Runner director Ridley Scott on hand as an executive producer. We know that it’s set 50 years after 2017’s Blade Runner 2049, but details on the show have otherwise been basically nonexistent. The biggest piece of recent news was back in March, with Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer reportedly in talks to star.

The news of 2099’s production being halted comes not long after Marvel Studios decided to kill production for both Thunderbolts and Wonder Man for the foreseeable future. Countless other films and shows have stopped production in the month of May as a result of picketing writers, which has to be a blow felt by all the companies as solidarity for the writers grows and the WGA may not be the only ones picketing for better pay and profits from streaming services.
