Even in moments of absolute triumph, the stark realities of life as a para athlete are impossible to ignore.

Evan O’Hanlon climbed the podium this morning to claim his gold medal from yesterday’s men’s T37/38 100m. It was the 200th Commonwealth Games gold medal for Australian track and field and it meant a lot to the sprinter.

But the speedster with eight world championships gold medals, who piloted Australia’s two-man bobsled at the 2021 Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Championships, also had money on the mind.

“Bobsled’s probably too expensive for me at the moment now that I’ve got the two kids to look after and probably heading back to Australia to live,” he said.

“But never say never, I could make a comeback at some point.

“And then athletics, I don’t know, I enjoy it.

“I like going out there and gambling two years of funding on 11 seconds of running but at some point that doesn’t really help to support two kids either so I need to get a real job and become a real person.”

West Ham flop set to make transfer move to English club

West Ham have a season-defining Europa Conference League final ahead of them this week before turning their attentions back to the summer transfer window, pre-season and then domestic duties for the 2023/24 campaign.

It’s not clear if David Moyes will still be in charge come next season, with reasons why he could both stay or go depending on next Wednesday’s result.

Should the Hammers win their first European final in 47 years, the Scot could bow out on a high, but equally, if they were beaten by Fiorentina, that could re-ignite the fire for Moyes to push ahead in 23/24 and turn things around just as he did when returning to the club second time around.

Premier League new boys Sheffield United’s only concern is being able to sign players that will keep them in the English top-flight, and to that end, one West Ham flop is apparently on their radar.

It hasn’t been that long since Turkish side, Besiktas, made Arthur Masuaku’s loan move from the Hammers permanent, but according to Takvim, the left-back is a target for Paul Heckingbottom.

Hammers supporters will surely have something to say about that given that Masuaku’s best moment in a West Ham shirt was a late, and slightly fortuitous winner against Chelsea.

Much of the remainder of his career at the London Stadium was uneventful, the player making only 49 total appearances (including as sub) in the three seasons he was at the club, per WhoScored.

Parramatta five-eighth Dylan Brown has been charged with five counts of sexual touching without consent after an alleged incident at a hotel in Sydney’s eastern suburbs on Saturday night.

It’s understood police were called when a 20-year-old woman reported the alleged incident to staff at the Golden Sheaf pub.

NSW Police confirmed that Brown is due to answer the charges at the Downing Centre Local Court this week.

“About 11.40pm yesterday officers attached to Eastern Suburbs PAC were called to a hotel on South Head Rd at Double Bay following a report of sexual touching,” a police statement read.

“Police arrested a 22-year-old man. He was taken to Waverley Police Station where he has been charged with sexually touch another person without consent.

“He was granted bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday, June 7.”

The Eels had the bye this weekend and play the Bulldogs next Monday afternoon.

“The Parramatta Eels have been made aware of an incident involving Dylan Brown last night,” Parramatta said in a statement.

“The club has advised the NRL integrity unit as per our normal process. As it is a police matter, the club will not be making further comment at this time”.

Alonso hails Leverkusen´s ´important´ record-equalling win against Union Berlin

Rennes edged out Lille and Monaco to secure a top-four finish while Nantes’ first league win since February saw them stay up at Auxerre’s expense on a dramatic final day of Ligue 1 action.

Rennes clinched a 2-1 victory against Brest thanks to a Benjamin Bourigeaud brace, seizing on Lille’s 1-1 draw with relegated Troyes and Monaco’s 2-1 reverse against Toulouse to take fourth.

Bruno Genesio’s side thus secured Europa League football for next season, while Paulo Fonseca’s Lille must settle for a Europa Conference League spot and Monaco missed out entirely.

Champions Paris Saint-Germain squandered a two-goal lead in a 3-2 loss to Clermont, meaning they finished just one point clear of runners-up Lens, who ended the season with a 3-1 win at Auxerre.

That victory allowed Nantes to finalise a great escape in their final game, vaulting Auxerre to secure safety with a 1-0 win over relegated Angers.
